Florida Work Zone Safety

The purpose of this course is to train personnel on the current guidelines for temporary traffic control, also referred to as Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC).  This course provides instruction for setting up safe work zones that meet the revised standards of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Part VI and the Roadway and Traffic Design Standards (RTDS), 600 series indexes, with emphasis on short-term work sites on roads and streets in rural and urban areas.  These requirements apply to construction, maintenance, and utility work zones.  Our instructors are geographically located to cover the entire state of Florida.  

This course covers the following:

  • General Procedures and Terms
  • Temporary Traffic Control Devices
  • Temporary Traffic Control Zone
  • Flagger Procedures
  • Setting Up The Traffic Control Zone
  • Roadway and Traffic Design Standards (RTDS)

At the completion of this course, the trainee will:

  • Understand the requirements for national and state standards for work zone traffic safety
  • Have a working knowledge of a work zone including the five areas and the traffic control devices used in each
  • Have a working knowledge of the typical applications from the RTDS
  • Interpret and adapt the RTDS typical applications to varying work zone situations.
